STK681-310 — Forward/Reverse Brushed DC Motor Driver (hybrid IC)

The STK681-310 is a hybrid integrated motor-driver IC designed for current-controlled forward/reverse operation of small brushed DC motors. It delivers a DC startup output current of 4.2 A (with higher-temperature derating) and supports short-duration peak brake pulses up to 8 A, making it suitable for applications such as office copiers, printers and other compact motorized mechanisms where reliable direction control and fast braking are required. 

Built for rugged embedded systems, the STK681-310 runs from a main motor supply (VCC1) that accepts 10 V to 42 V and uses a 5 V logic supply (VCC2 = 5 ±5%), so it integrates easily into common 12 V and 24 V designs while keeping logic interfacing straightforward. The device includes an internal current-sense resistor (0.10 Ω) to simplify fixed-current control and a protected internal current-control block that removes the need to design dead-time when switching between forward and reverse. 

As an off-the-shelf hybrid IC, the STK681-310 emphasizes durability and thermal safety: its allowable power dissipation (no heat sink) is specified at 3.1 W, the allowable substrate operating temperature reaches 105 °C, and the absolute junction limit is 150 °C—specs that help system designers assess mounting, PCB thermal management and derating curves for continuous operation.
